Hello!
I am always trying to find new ways to get the soloution I Need. Not long ago I found CloudCompare and would like to ask if it can handly what I need. I did not find the Information, or I am just too stupid.
I am interested in the vertical distance between a mesh and a pointcloud
This very professional sketch makes it clear hopefully:
As a result I woud like to have a new mesh (or pointcloud) which has the distance between both as the Z-value.
Is that possible to do with cloudcompare and where do I have to get a deeper look?
Vertical distance between mesh and pointcloud

Re: Vertical distance between mesh and pointcloud
The only solution to do this in CloudCompare is to use the qM3C2 plugin (http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... 2_(plugin)). There's a 'Vertical' normals option that basically force the plugin to compute vertical distances. And you can use the 'Guess params' button to set all the other parameters.
The most tricky part is that the qM3C2 plugin requires two clouds (instead of a cloud and a mesh). Therefore you'll have to sample points on the mesh first (with 'Edit > Mesh > Sample points'). Don't hesitate to sample a lot of points so as to get a quite dense result.

Re: Vertical distance between mesh and pointcloud
Thanks for your reply Daniel!
I tried it, and it works great for me! Until now I used TerraSolid for such calculations, but CC is many times faster.
The results are compareable to those of TerraSolid.
And many thumbs up for caring about this Software!
