Im pretty impressed with what Veesus has managed to do with their Arena 4D plugin for Rhino after having a chance to play with it.
I had used the old Pointools plugin and distinctly remember it being extremely buggy and frustrating. One of the thinges I clearly remember was that you could not get constructions planes to work which meant that you really had to have your local coordinate system set up before you imported into Rhino. And, if you are a Faro Scene user, it's just about impossible to come up with a workflow to create a User Coodinate Sytem where in the case of a building, the X axis is aligned to a long wall and the Y axis is made perpendicular. ( yes, you can do this in Scene if you don't need to have the final output in a World Coordinate System)
The Arena4D plugin I'm pleased to say works a treat. That now means you can import the point cloud into Rhino, "Square Up" the coordinate system to something that makes sense and then create your Slice Planes and you can model away until your hearts content. Because the Rhino Construction planes work with Arena4D, if you have a object that is at a different angle to your User Coordinate System then you can create a new UCS and create new slices AND everything still works. Once you have finished modelling, flick things back to the World Coordinate System. It's a simple thing, but makes a big difference.
Well done Veesus.
(Note: if anyone knows how to create a local coord System in Scene AND get the World Coodinate System plus the Local Coordinate System exported into CAD, please let me know.)
Congrats Arena4D for Rhino

Hi Gregg,
Thanks for the kind words! It's always nice to hear when somebody is really benefiting from your blood, sweat and tears!
Like with all our products, if there's something you want in it, or something you don't like about it (or something is broken!).. please let us know and we'll do our best to cater for it as quickly as possible.
Many Thanks
Mark

Re: Congrats Arena4D for Rhino
I've just been trying this out and can confirm that it is indeed a great plugin for Rhino. Now just in the process of convincing 'the powers that be' that we need to buy it. The difference to the old pointools plugin is huge, it's much more user friendly.
