Realworks 10
Realworks 10 was released on Tuesday. The release notes say it include automatic classification for ground, signs, buildings, etc. Sounds great if it works. I'd like to hear reports from Realworks users who've had a chance to try it out.

Re: Realworks 10
Hi
We have just started with RealWorks 10, I am also interested in the feature. I do intend to try it out at some point and will try and remember to post results
Having used RealWorks for a couple of months now we have been impressed with the functionality so hopefully this will follow suite.

Re: Realworks 10
ok, just tried this.
Results were... interesting.
Take a look at the picture, it classified the small building in the bottom right but missed the large building in the middle.
The ground came out very well and I got a couple of poles as well.
So not bad, I think I will have to play a little further.

Re: Realworks 10
From the limited testing I've done so far I agree. It did a great job on the ground, misclassfied some buildings, poles, etc. but I found the selection tools make it easy to isolate and correct the classifications manually.

Re: Realworks 10
Here are some screen shots from a data set I processed today. The top image was processed to keep details and reduce the point cloud to 2%. The keep details is what makes all the building and sign edges more populated than walls and such.
The second image was using the Auto-classification to identify different features. This took about 20 minutes and did a great job of removing vehicles and people etc... while also identifying and classifying features such as the buildings, ground, signs, and poles.
The third image was after manually editing the cloud to correctly identify features missed by the auto-classify. This took about 5 minutes.
The original scan project contained 35 two minute TX8 scans with just over 2 billion points and was registered using ten 100 mm sphere targets and three 230 mm sphere targets mounted on tripods over control points for georeferencing.

Re: Realworks 10
So I did today a try with the classification tool.
I had an outdoor area and it contains a pole and other stuff to test the algorithm.
As you can see the software recognized clearly the pole, separated the ground. The result is pretty good at the first glance. Also, RW has the ground extraction tool individually. My only request would be a 'vegetation filter' to separate the trees from the building. In this example is on the same.
We have to be honest, there must be a lot of things what has effect on the process, and It need some post-process, but it is a good direction of development and at least the ground extraction is a great feature itself.

Re: Realworks 10
I re-tried with the same data set I used earlier. This time I excluded the internals of the building and it worked much better, with only a small bit of tree added to the building, but crucially the building was extracted.
So far, we've been pretty impressed with RealWorks 10, this is a neat little function that could have useful applications.

Re: Realworks 10
Looks good!
I am wondering how efficient is it with a measurement on a highway area with a lot of poles.
