Delete points from mirror
Hi All.
I have recently made the switch from Scene to Realworks.
I am still finding my feet with the software. How do you PERMANENTLY remove scan points from a scan?
I have reflected points in a mirror that are projecting into the room next door. If I register the the scans together, then the points in the next room will be exported as such.
I know you can segment scanpoints in order to view scans better when matching in cloud to cloud registration mode, but once the two clouds are registered together, the segmented points are refreshed.
I basically want to delete the points permanently from the one scan, and then register it to the other scans.
See attached image for reference

Re: Delete points from mirror
Hi Jared,
At the Production module, you have the Edit menu>Delete points from TZF scans
but
My suitable workflow is to first register the pointcloud,
from the Project cloud>sampling by scan
segmentation for those scans
the clean segmentated cloud objects can be merged into one cloud (ctrl+m)
in this way i have the requested area without noise.
If you use targaetless registration, probably the mirror-noise will have affect on the calculation so try the first one.

Re: Delete points from mirror

Re: Delete points from mirror
yes, correct.
the same was the procedure when we did a scan in a shoe-store.
each registered scanposition can be created as a new cloud object, and the unwanted area can be fenced out.
then you can use/export each scanposition divided, or merged together, whatever the customer needs.
back in the days it was useful to have scanpositions divided in the modeling software due to the hardware-possibilities.

This help me a lot !
Can we batch this in order to automatically create object from each (registration) group ?
(and then let the processor do his job a few days ...)
For example you have several building with numerous room with around 3 or 4 station each room and you want to create a cloud objet for each room in production

Could someone give a more detailed step-by-step of how this is achieved?

Jared,
I feel your pain. Surely there must be an easy way to remove unwanted points from each TZF file BEFORE registering.

Re: Delete points from mirror
Thanks Dennis.
Extracting points from scan explorer to then delete from TZF is still needlessly time-consuming and complex. This method and would not allow for deletion of points behind glass, for example.
Sampling each individual station by scan, one by one, is no better.
Both methods are in Production Mode, AFTER registration meaning that erroneous points could still affect the registration process.
It makes no sense. Why is it so difficult / not possible to delete points from TZF prior to registration?

Re: Delete points from mirror
I'm not agree with you!
Extracting point from scan explorer can be (and it's better) before registration! And for glasses, i delete all inside the class
On field, you often know what station will pose problems (windows between room, mirror ...), personally I make a sketch and i note what stations I should clean up.
However, this procedure is not user friendly, i'm agree. I just hope Trimble will fix this on next update
