I don't think Sequoia's ability to mesh point clouds of this size is really unprecedented. Polyworks has included the ability to run their meshing tool distributed across an unlimited number of machines ever since we've been using it, so almost a decade. Using our in-house tools, which are really just some thin wrappers around poisson surface reconstruction, we're regularly doing point clouds in the 1-5 Billion point range on standalone workstations. I doubt we've needed to do 10 Billion, although I'm sure we could if pressed. At least for us, actually generating the meshes isn't much of a problem, it's other parts of the pipeline that are the bottle neck.dhirota wrote:Does anyone know of other meshing software that will handle point clouds larger than 1-5 Bpoints?, or 10-20Bpoints?
