Hey there,
I need help to export point clouds in a .xyz /.asc file with colours. And I don't no which programm can create it.
At the moment the point cloud is available in .wrl; .obj; .ply. If you know a software which can import these formats it would be greate! It's important that the .xyz/ .asc file have got the colours. I tried with MeshLab or Geomagic Studio 10 but the points are all black. If the software is free (or a limited trial version) it would be perfect.
I hope you can help me.
Best regards

Hi, You don't say what program you currently have the data in as the formats you have listed are mesh formats.
Can you post up an example of the file.

Hello,
the programs are MeshLab, Geomagic Studio 10 and Faro Scene.
I create the colour with MeshLab.
Unfortunately I can't upload an example.

Indeed those formats are for meshes. And some of them don't even handle RGB colors (so I guess the colors correspond either to materials or textures).
In this case you could try with CloudCompare (free). If the colors do correspond to textures/materials, then you can use the 'Edit > Mesh > Convert materials/texture to RGB' method.
The 'Edit > Mesh > Sample points' method might be also handy to convert a mesh to a dense point cloud (if there are not enough vertices).

Hi There
So you have a Polygonal MESH - with Colours. If you can find someone with PolyWorks. This package allows you to select the Vertices of the Mesh and Export these as a point cloud. One of the options is to export colours - as you can see.
If this is just a one off job - send me the file and I will quickly do this and get it back to you.
PolyWorks is great - so powerful, with many many options which makes it hard to learn everything it can do. But once you have, life's a breeze. mmmm Maybe ???

Re: Export point cloud in .xyz/ .asc file with colours
Hi,
sorry I told you the wrong formats.
The point cloud is only available with .wrl
The other formats (.ply .obj) were used for the Mesh because I have got the file with point clouds and Mesh
Thus I need the point cloud in .xyz / .asc file with colours.
@NOVAMECH thank you for the offer, but I guess if I solve my problem I will export more files into xyz/asc.
Sorry guys for the wrong information.
Best regards
