Sequoia 1.1 in Release Candidate!
After keeping the lid on 1.1 for a while now, we are happy to announce that the next version of Sequoia is nearing release.
Some of the highlights include:
2x faster
Simplified workflows for exporting textured mesh data to 3D applications and game engines
Z+F and Riegl file support
FBX, U3D, and 3d PDF support
New workflows for maintaining geo-referenced data precision
Details on the release can be found here: http://www.thinkboxsoftware.com/news/20 ... -2016.html
To access the new version, please contact: sales at thinkboxsoftware.com
As a part of this release, we have also put together a bunch of demonstration/education videos which you can find here:
http://sequoia.thinkboxsoftware.com/seq ... -overview/
Many thanks to those forum members who have been instrumental in the development of this release. Your comments and criticism have been awesome and we are excited to start working on 1.2.
On a somber note, it is with a heavy heart that I start a new thread. The 1.0 announcement post looked to break records...

Re: Sequoia 1.1 in Release Candidate!
I really like all the mesh post-processing tools you guys are starting to build in to Sequoia. I'm still not convinced the mesh creation options can meet our particular needs yet, but I'm starting to see the potential for it to fill an importanat role in our pipeline for post-processing meshes we've generated externally. The addition of a Linux client is also really exciting because of the implications that has for setting it up on a render farm.
Keep up the great work!

Re: Sequoia 1.1 in Release Candidate!
We have our Sequoia 1.1rc running on our newly build prototype workstation.
The Linux platform will be a great addition since we are planning to build our new servers moving from Windows Server OS to Linux. For those that are looking into computation, the server pictured below is not a requirement for Sequoia, thankfully, but is where some people are headed.
We are still working with different sensors and testing how Sequoia will mesh the point clouds effectively.

Latest sample of Sequoia 1.1RC
See other thread
https://www.laserscanningforum.com/foru ... 1&start=10
I loaded the 24 XYZ files into Sequoia 1.1RC; created the point cloud for the 24 scans; and generated the mesh for 2 out of 24 scans.
Estimated total points 24 X 200,000=4.8M points
Estimated total faces 24 X400,000=9.6M faces

Re: Sequoia 1.1 in Release Candidate!
For those that might be interested, Sequoia v1.1.8 has the initial capability of point loading DOT PRODUCT scanner native *.dp files.
I have not tested it thoroughly, but loaded a few "dp" files to see what happened. I do not have the time to test the meshing since I am leaving soon for InterGeo2016. I have Sequoia 1.1.8 on my DELL M6800 if anyone in Hamburg at InterGeo would like to see it work.

Re: Sequoia 1.1 in Release Candidate!
Hi,
I wanted to test SEQUOIA software, I fond it very powerful !!
But i have a question, when I wanted to do this tutorial : http://sequoia.thinkboxsoftware.com/texture-baking-1/
They use free XMesh Loader plugin and a SEQUOIA Hacksaw importer script for 3dsMax. I have XMesh loader but impossible to found the script.
On their Github, i found this : https://github.com/ThinkboxSoftware/Seq ... titions.ms
But nothing happens on my 3dsMax 2017 version.
Do you have an idea?
Thank's

The script is a so-called MacroScript which installs a User Interface ActionItem that can be put on a toolbar, in a menu, or can be assigned to a keyboard shortcut. Here are the steps for installing a MacroScript in any version of 3ds Max since release 3 in 1999:
- Drag the script from Windows Explorer into the 3ds Max viewports (this will evaluate it and create the MacroScript definition which is copied automatically to the \Userscripts folder of your local user account)
- Go to the 3ds Max Main Menu > Customize menu > Customize User Interface menu item
- In the Customize UI dialog, select the Toolbar tab
- Select the Category "Sequoia" from the drop-down list
- If you want to make a new Toolbar, press the New... button and enter a name like "Sequoia". This will make a floating rollout, but you can dock it anywhere a toolbar can be docked in 3ds Max.
- Drag the ActionItem named "LoadSQHacksaw" from the Customize User Interface dialog to the toolbar - a new SQHS button will be created.
- Close the dialog (when you close 3ds Max, the new toolbar will be saved automatically, so you don't need to save explicitly)
The same steps apply to adding the ActionItem to a Keyboard Shortcut, Menu or QuadMenu, except you would use the other tabs of the Customize UI dialog.
Note that normally, this script and the one for importing Sequoia Bookmarks as 3ds Max Cameras are installed in the folder
C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Sequoia\SequoiaTools\Integration\3dsmax\
The content of the installed scripts should be identical to the ones found on GitHub, since the installer builds using the GitHub sources. If you don't see those scripts in your Sequoia installation folder, please let us know!

Re: Sequoia 1.1 in Release Candidate!
Was anyone else using Sequoia?
Sequioa was able to mesh entire industrial plants, with accurate and clean results, it could scale across multiple compute nodes or use AWS compute resources. One thing I found convenient, it could output a grid of mesh files, which could be imported independently into your preferred reverse engineering software.
Amazon has removed Sequoia from the market, I have asked Amazon support if they would consider open sourcing it, perhaps if others asked as well, it might gain some traction.
