Analysis of construction work for use in law-suit...

Post by Aaron_Hazen »

Need some assistance.

So we took scans for a PM who wanted to affirm correct construction of a site's plan. There were many areas that the cloud and model varied differently and we showed this with a heatmap on different walls etc. using scan to BIM.

Now the PM is sueing the construction manager. They want us to provide a more detailed analysis of plumbness of corners (is it within 2 degrees of a 90 degree angle). They also wants us to specify the distances of depth where there are 2-3 inch waves on certain walls to show where concrete was poured incorrectly. This is no longer specifically a comparison to the Revit model we have been given by the PM, the analysis can be done directly to the point cloud.

I have downloaded cloud compare, but don't know where to get started analyzing and visualizing this data. All help appreciated. Email if interested in consulting/contracting relationship on creating what we need.

Hi,

Indeed that could be a job for CC 8-). Do you have sample clouds to share with me? The waves should come out pretty easily. Not sure about the corner plumbness yet but we should be able to figure something out.

Don't hesitate to send me emails (at 'cloudcompare [at] danielgm.net') if you want to discuss a bit more about this.

The hard part is establishing a baseline. However, you can do that in a CAD program and then import to CC. There are some tutorial videos on the CloudCompare website that explain the basics of what you need.

Don't worry, you'll get it.

I would like to know what the outcome of this project is? Were you able to utilize Cloud Compare?

I wish I had seen this earlier, in the future consider using SKUR. We're a cloud based platform that provides variance between BIM/CAD and the built environment. For more information visit our website @ www.skur.com.
