Re: Some 3D printed stuff
Those were printed as snap together kits on Shapeways
I also printed them in deposit style higher detail plastic
The tolerances allow for printing with motion as one solid block

I then tried to see how small I could print motion

I then took the laser scan of my Ariel Atom and tried to see if I could print it with motion
I was able to get "en block" printed working suspension, steering and rolling. I also printed it with an energy storage engine and got it to work to prove the possiblity, but, something else got my attention and it was dropped.

This one was fun to print. It was from a contour map and creating a TIN from the contours and yes it was about the time that the Washington marijuana law passed

Re: Some 3D printed stuff
I had printed the little instrument models for Christmas ornaments, needless to say discussion occurred ..
Back in 2012 I printed one for the Atom being made in a shed, to my surprise that one met with NO tree hanging resistance

Re: Some 3D printed stuff
I need to get myself a 3D printer - these are really cool ! Good work !!
You mentioned you used Shapeways - do you recommend them? I have a bunch of models lined up on their website for printing and have been delaying hitting the "go" button due to the high costs of shipping to NZ, but they seem to be the best option.

I hate to be any company's spokesman, but, Shapeway's is hard to beat. What is your shop? Mine is https://www.shapeways.com/shops/cpconsult

Re: Some 3D printed stuff
Nice! I didn't realise you could even have a shop All our stuff is models of archaeological excavation features, buildings etc... so nothing that anyone in their right minds would buy (Unless they're into stone mounds and storage pits ...)

I never posted my favorite pics

Two 28" monitors which is getting small in the screen real estate these days
Yes ,the legs work just like a standard tripod on concrete so I had to make one of these

Started making my own batteries lately. This is a 11.1 volt 3 cell LiPo regulated to 12.5 volt and we are getting 9.5 amps out. Very light, but, it is more of a surveying application than a scanning one. Weight 636 grams (22.4oz) with batteries but w/o connections
