AUTODESK RECAP PRO 2023.1.0.300
There a some new features in Autodesk Recap 2023.1.0.300 in the event that tracking any new features has generally been a boring experience.
I will list two that have been the most interesting to me because of our workflows and the equipment that we use to implement the workflows with Civil3D and scanning.
1. The ability of Recap to use parallel processing for importing of LAS scans into Recap. The limit is the number of (cores/4)+1. So in my case, we have two 64 core TR, which allows 17 parallel imports. I also have a Zen4 7950X with 16 cores running at 5.7Ghz, which is faster than the TR.
I imported a test of 20 scan positions of 60 LAS files, and you can see the 17 being imported in the image below.
I imported a 60 scan position Riegl LAS file of 627 million points, which required 15m41sec to import into Recap.
2. The ability of Recap to provide classification of "ground" versus "other" (such as vegetation, buildings, etc). This was just a test since I just downloaded the new Recap version this morning. We will be testing Recap using other files from our Riegl VZ400i to compare it with other classification software we have used in the past. The classification (which is far from perfect) took over 3 hours of processing on a 7950X with 64GB of DDR5-6000 RAM.

Parallel import is a big QoL update to me, regarding the classification, can you only only classify ground or can it run multiple categories?

Parrallel processing is the biggest update I have seen out of all the softwares I use in my whole carreer
If I could squeeze the computer time lost from the dreaded single core processing it would in the hundreds of hours
This is amazing news it has renewed a love I had lost for Recap.

Good stuff! Sadly they have removed features from the free version (don't know since when, could have been a few versions back).
You can't delete points anymore, and you can't create sections for the overview (in the top-right-corner). Also you can't export scans.

I hope to be wrong .. but it seems that for the classification we should use ONLY unstructured data in LAS, TXT formats

Re: AUTODESK RECAP PRO 2023.1.0.300
Hmmm, I don't see ReCap Pro 2023.1 as an available download in my Autodesk PD&M Collection, only 23.0.0.358.
Is 2023.1 only currently available in the standalone version?

in automatic updates I don't see it either; I downloaded it directly from the autodesk websitepipingdesigner wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 12:49 pm Hmmm, I don't see ReCap Pro 2023.1 as an available download in my Autodesk PD&M Collection, only 23.0.0.358.
