Hi all,
I have a project where I need to scan about 40x40m of terrain. The ground is sloped and probably difference in elevation from chainage 0 to 40 is about 2m. It is an empty area so impossible to fix scans to existing structures.
Would someone recommend a number of targets I would need to prepare and their spacing? I need to capture levels with let's say +-5cm for cut and fill analysis in civil 3D.
Can I just have square (made from A4/A3) black&white laminated targets on a broom stick ? - need to make them beforehand.
Thanks for all tips and advices.
Jed

Hi Jed,
What scanner do you have to complete this project? This info would be useful to advise the best methodology for the project.

For the Accuracy you are looking for you could use black/white targets and laminate/glue them on something that is rotatable
Though HDS Grey is preferrable with the BLK360 because of the laser class according to Leica HDS support
Here's some 6" PDF target templates:
https://mcgov-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/p ... A?e=gdKn2V
https://mcgov-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/p ... g?e=uC3YXM
The broomstick idea won't work ,lol, unless you are REALLY good at getting a broomstick perfectly plumb and rotating it perfectly plumb!
But you might want to try Spheres using uniform balls (Styrofoam or plastic painted- there are many threads describing self-made ones on here).
We haven't tried the latter with our BLK, as we purchased 6 - 4" B&W targets with mag mounts and quick-release to 5/8" adapters (too small for general use). This was before we found out about the HDS Grey advantage. I think we may convert them or keep them when we rent the RTC360
The 5 cm tolerance you quote should work fine for all these -it's much larger than the BLK performance.
That being said- you MUST use survey control and have some of your targets set up on them. I would suggest a 5-dot-dice pattern over you site.
Otherwise the tilt on the site may bite you in the butt, depending on how the BLK data imports.
What software are you bringing it into?
Also is there ground-cover-grass/ That will effect your volumes, and unless you're scanning a putting green, you may not be able to rely on the elevations.
