RCS decimation uneven. Is this normal? Do all software do this?

Post by Leandre Robitaille »

Hi everyone, I just noticed today that recap seems to work in a 250mm square grid in order to create its RCS decimation. Here I have pictures of a 25mm and 30mm decimation, they both have the same 250mm grid appearance and only the points in that perimeter are at 25mm decimation. Each square can be very close to one another (see 25mm square spacing vs spacing of 30mm squares)...hence there is a lot of points being ''doubled'' here. I feel like this would equate to a good % of points that are not decimated making the rcs export somewhat not optimal. Does this pattern appear in other software as well (maybe cloudcompare?) I have not tested this thoroughly hoping some people here would have input as to why this is happening and maybe know a better way to decimate a pointcloud.
