We abandoned Recap after we got more scanning jobs despite is't being a great viewing tool.

And went where?

Cyclone register BLK edition and Field 360 as we only have BLK360...
Recap isn't as stable or efficient as the Cyclone family, it is however a good entry level application for a newbie to experience laser scanning.
As the job gets more serious and complicated, it is expected to upgrade to a more sophisticated software.

The problem I have is AutoCAD just not handling the poiuntclouds, it will work fine for a few days then all of a sudden it the pointcloud will start jumping around and crashing. I take all the precautions that I know about for example turning off scan locations I dont need using the point cloud manager, reducing the level of detail where I can afford to without affecting accuracy and cropping on the area I am working on at the time.
This is extremely problematic to me and costing a lot of time, Is anyone alse aware of anything I can do to improve the performance in AutoCAD?
Thanks
Jack
seems like I'm late to the party.
Are you normally always drawing in the point cloud or would Orthophotos do as well?
As far as I know you can generate them directly out of Scene, or if you like to make them more comfortable, use our software PointCab.
You can import the lsprj Scene file point cloud directly in PointCab and generate the images/slices directly where you need them and have them directly exported as dwg/dxf.
Then you don't have the hustle of the point cloud (3D + data size), but only some images.
Cheers
Martin

Thanks for the reply Martin,
Never too late it seems!
I have played around with ortho photos once which is fine for floor plan jobs but when its the full works (plans, sections, elevations) like most of my jobs its not really practical.
I may play around with just exporting slices but again its not really practical when im dealing with sections and elevations.

+1 for Undet in Autocad
Export E57 index in Undet and then produce Plans, Sections and Elevations. Also use for 3D modelling in Autocad and Revit.
We have been using it since 2015 and have all of our CAD Drafting team using it.
Super quick, Super efficient for any type of drafting.

Re: AutoCAD not handling RCP files (freezing and jumping around)
We do all our drafting from the point cloud in Microstation using TopoDOT. Handles the point cloud wonderfully and then just export our linework to AutoCAD for getting it ready to deliver. Trying to use a point cloud directly in AutoCAD makes me sick.
