We recently loaded 180 million points into the 3ds Max viewport on an ASUS G75V, with 32 Gb of RAM and a 3 GB Nvidia Graphics card.
The performance was quite good (Studio Clouds is a bit sluggish with 50 million points), and just applying a small reduction in points made it as fluid as a much smaller cloud.
Of course this notebook is a screamer...
