How to colorize mesh from Pointcloud?
Hi guys,
i hope you can help me with the follow problem... I have taken few scans with Faro 3D. Register and Merge them with Autodesk Recap and Export a single scan with all points as a .pts file. To import it in 3D Resahper i convert the .pts in cloudcompare into a .asc file. 3D reshaper detect X,Y,Z and R,G,B and intensity and i can colorize the point cloud with the real colors. But if i create the Mesh the Color information seems to be lost, is there any possibility to create a texture or a colored mesh with 3Dreshaper? And what do you think is the best way to export? (which type)
Thx 4 Help!

Hi till,
You can directly import pts file formats in 3dreshaper. No need to convert it to asc format.
In order to add color to the mesh:
- select the mesh and the point cloud
- launch the command mesh/take color from cloud
You're done!
Note that you can also apply the intensity values if you need
Hope I answered your questions

Re: How to colorize mesh from Pointcloud?
To complete the answer, the mesh obtained that way will be a colored mesh.
You can export it to ply format for example.
Or you can convert the colored mesh to textured mesh and then export to obj format

Apart from the solution posted by our forum colleague, you can also import the RGB pointcloud into Meshlab, compute the normals, run a poisson conversion to obtain the mesh and finally and run a transfer vertex to mesh color filter, then export the coloured mesh as a .obj, .dae, etc.
Also, Scene for Faro can convert a pointcloud directly to a coloured mesh.

Thanks for Answers!
Thanks!
Now i have a .rsh 3d reshaper project file with a point cloud and a colored mesh. But when i export the mesh as .obj format and load it into meshlab theres only the uncolored mesh? Is there the possibility to create texture files like .jpg for the .obj file?gilles_3Dreshaper wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2017 2:06 pm To complete the answer, the mesh obtained that way will be a colored mesh.

Yes, the workflow in 3DReshaper to convert a colored mesh into a textured mesh is to use the command Image / Texture from Color.
Then, the mesh can be exported to OBJ with texture!

Hmmm...
never tried to do this
Maybe processing the image using GIMP or Photoshop to make it less dark?

Maybe there is an option that you should untick in the general settings.
Open "Colors and Aspect" in the Home menu.
Untick the option "Apply lighting on textured mesh".
3DReshaper naturally adds light/shadow to the meshes in order to render them well in 3D, but when the mesh is textured, it could result in looking too dark if the texture is dark.
