Print view of 3D points in high resolution

Post by Michael Mueller » Fri Sep 05, 2014 10:54 am

Hi

what an impressive forum - I hope to find some answers here.

For presenting my bachelor thesis I'm asked to create a poster. I would like to use some 3D point clouds on it. Thats why I'm looking for a (free, or trial) software that is able to print the current view with high resolution. I don't care whether it creates some image files directly or whether I have to print it into PDF first.

Can you recommend software that is able to do that? I tested CloudCompare, Quick Terrain Reader and GeoMagic unsuccessfully. My 3D point cloud are provided as *las files and come from Semi-Global Matching processes.

Looking forward to your answers
best regards, Michael Mueller

Welcome to the Forum Michael :D

You could, also try Leica Cyclone and Arena 4D - they should both be available in a trial version I think.

I'm sure there will be others, but can't think of the top of my head right now.

Double post removed.
Arya Stark - Lots of people name their swords.
The Hound - Lots of c----s.

Haven't you missed the 'Display > Render to file' option in CloudCompare?

You can specify a zoom to be applied to the current view in order to render a much larger (i.e. higher resolution) image. You can also change the point size so as to fill low density areas.

With a good GPU you can render images up to 64 M. pixels or more.

Yes, I missed that totally. Thank you, it's exactly what I was looking for.
