Point Cloud Library (PCL)

Post by virtumake » Thu Jan 24, 2013 2:33 pm

Is anybody using "Point Cloud Library (PCL)" for scanning purposes ?

I would like to give it a try with an Asus Xtion Pro scanner.

Any of you guys ever do anything with PCL? I've been learning it for a little while now, thought it might be interesting to talk about it around here.

I have been using PCL since two years. It's a great library.

I am using it for Point cloud registration, cleaning, fitting basic shapes and for many more things

I see you work for the company that makes Pointshape? http://www.pointshape.com/ Do you make use of pcl in that software?

I'm really pretty new at it, I got it installed back in January and just got started really learning it about a month ago. I'm just trying to see what kind of tools I can build with it, see if I can improve some of my workflows. but really I just want to learn more about it, I think it will probably be useful to know in the future.

Not that one. We are yet to release our new product "PointShape Surveyor" where we used PCL. I have also used in project I worked with Daewoon Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in my Masters.

Great! I suggest you to go through the tutorials in the PCL website. There are plenty of them. You will get very good understanding of what you can do with it. In fact, I learnt most of the point cloud concepts I know from the tutorials itself. Good luck.
