I spent some time working for Australian company Maptek in Adelaide,
( www.maptek.com/products/i-site/)
They build laser scanners, I believe they scanned the aftermath of the Bali Bombing site.

I have access to some data from December 2005 where a Riegl scanner was used for collision scene, I think it was a Riegl LMS-Z210i. I think we even had the scanner in 2004, I would have to do some more digging if you wanted more.

cheers Daniel
Daniel,

Yes, I would be interested in the the type of case, perhaps a few short sentences on the details and any images, references in the media...etc.

Thanks!

Excellent information all! I think we'll need to make this a challenge on who has the earliest reference!

Mike,

Can you tell me more about the case you worked on and why the need of the scans?

Cheers!

Hi Eugene,
I will send you some info on a few projects that I have worked on.
On a side note, I remember attending what might have been the first gathering of the IAFSM in Salem MA in 2006, laser scanning was already a hot topic !

Living the dream :)
Mike.
I'm pretty sure that scanner is sitting in our office somewhere. It gets dragged out occasionally for some random testing job.

I once used it to scan 10km of abandoned silver mine workings in Mexico - registering it all together on my laptop using PolyWorks in the evenings over a cerveza or three...

You may have this already, Eugene, but if not, there is some discussion of the topic here: https://books.google.com/books?id=QnxqD ... rt&f=false.

Excellent contributions in this thread. Nice to have so many people with personal experience at the dawning of this technology.

I can confirm that the Met Police were using laser scan data from the early 2000s. There were a variety of scanners deployed on the Paris tunnel job including Cyrax 2500, HDS 3000 and a Mensi scanner.
