USIBD is pleased to be partnering with BIMForum and SPAR Point Group to present an online webinar: "Development, Accuracy & Standards in 3D: Comparing the USIBD's LOA & the BIMForums' LOD". The webinar will be on Tuesday June 16, 2015 from 1 to 2 pm, EDT.
Many people struggle with specifying a Level of Development (LOD) and Level of Accuracy (LOA) when building in BIM. This session will provide an in-depth look into two of the industry's emerging standard specifications to help leverage both LOD and LOA on your project.
Key Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand the significance of the LOA and LOD, and their differences.
2. Understand the current needs for standards in the reality capture and BIM professions.
3. Learn how to specify LOA and LOD on your project.

Re: USIBD ~ Development, Accuracy & Standards in 3D
Some architects in their BEP (BIM Execution Plan) refer to LOD as Level Of Detail, some refer to it as Level Of Development, some refer to it as Level Of Design... There is also LOI Level Of Intelligence. And now we have LOA!
LOD has always meant Level Of Detail as far as 3D graphics (gaming specifically) are concerned.
Each architecture firm seems to create a different type of BEP to every other architect...
Standards are a pointless exercise if you can't get everyone on the same page...
It seems to me that the BIM process is trying to take one of the most complicated processes (building a Structure) and making it even more complicated than ever before. And we are all running to catch up. We as surveyors are just the tape measure after all.

If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

And I forgot to mention Level Of Definition - This is the term used in PAS1192-2
