A noob question about ortho images from pointclouds
Hi!
Getting into scanning and having great fun.
I am wondering if anyone is creating orthofotos from scan data. If so how? Thru meshing? Other ways?
I think it could be useful to have image backgrounds and not see through walls or other surfaces.

Hi Peder,
welcome to the forum! What SW do you use? You can create orthophotos straight from pointclouds and by playing with point size and resolution mask points that are behind objects you want to render. Meshes can give you better quailty by texturing it with hi-res photos, but creating a nice mesh from terrestrial scanner pointclouds can be challenge.

Cloud Compare can render ortho views although with very limited options. Not sure about other software on your list. Try Faro Scene LT, it is a free viewer for Faro scans, but can import and render 3rd party data formats as well.

Revit sections and elevations can include point cloud. They are to scale etc. Just drop on to a view. Naturally you can see through the cloud so will need to control section/view range thickness etc, or put a wall up behind to obfuscate other cloud data.

Re: A noob question about ortho images from pointclouds
There are software packages where you can create these orthophotos practically more or less automatically.
Define the slice and click on calculate and receive a complete dwg file with xref onto the image.
The idea behind it, is that you are able to import the orthophoto at the correct position in any CAD software, and don't need to load the point cloud (since the point cloud is normally hard to handle).
Which scanner are you using/in which format is your point cloud?

You can do it in the full version of Cyclone.
Pointools is really good for it as well.

Undet for Revit can be used to generate high-resolution georeferenced orthoimages from point cloud directly in Revit.

Kind of a hack, but if you want to get Ortho or "CUBE VIEW Faces" from Register 360- you can copy the Temp Folders while you are exporting JSV-LGS files.blazaj wrote: ↑Thu Mar 07, 2019 9:27 am Hi Peder,

During the processing they spit out the Six sides of the cube image (Similar to Cube views in Cyclone) in JPG color images, they are low res, but if you are looking to block out other points....not sure if that is what you want though...
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: A noob question about ortho images from pointclouds
Hi.
I´m starting in the scan world and have one (of many) question related with the subject.
I have a friend that requested me if I could scan a facade of a building for him.
I did the scan (have a BLK360) and the rest of the process (registering, cleaning) in Register360.
My friend needs (cause he does not work with pointclouds) an image of that facade to import to Autocad and then draw on it.
How can i do it?
Tryed in Cloudworx with the command "Ortho image" but the resolution is not great at all.
Thanks.
