Mount a laser scanner on a beam

Postby Viviana » Thu May 16, 2013 1:02 am

Hi All,
how are you?
Does anybody know how to mount a laser scanner on a steel beam or steel truss?

Thank you so much for your help!

Depending on the size of the beam and where on it you intend to mount the scanner a simple beam clamp from the hardware store will work. Some of them even have a 3/8NC threaded hole in them, so the scanner can be easily bolted to it with a short piece of all thread.

Another possible solution is using some telestrut to make your own clamp
Here is one we made that is very customizable: http://www.laserscanning.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=5251

Mount a laser scanner on a beam

I mounted ours on some box- and tri-truss for different projects using a plank of plywood with a bunch of holes drilled in it for U-bolts.

Easy and cheap!

Good luck!

We've used this clamp for a scan over the 27th level parapet of building. Our main concern was ensuring the scanner was adequately secured to prevent potential safety issues below.

Ric, you didn't have any problems scanning with the scanner horizontal to the beam? Because that would be awesome to just hang that Focus off the side of a railing.
