PointCloud Free Edition (FE).

Post by JulieEdwards »

NEW!

AutoCAD 2011 now contains a native point cloud engine which is powerful enough to handle up to 2 billion points of scan data. Currently, AutoCAD only supports a few data formats for import to .PCG.

kubit is happy to fill this gap by providing many more import options with our new PointCloud Free Edition. Users can now take advantage of the powerful AutoCAD .PCG engine and import the data from their laser scanner directly into AutoCAD.

Download http://download.kubit.de/english/exe/Po ... /setup.exe

The Free Edition may be upgraded to either PointCloud Basic or PointCloud Pro to enable the full Cloud management and modelling tools.

Julie,

I get an error when I try to run the appload (PCLoader.ARX). Do you know why?

Hi Phil,
Make sure that during the install you have chosen AutoCAD 2011 from the list and for 32 or 64 bit as appropriate. For example, if you loaded a 32 bit version by mistake and run a 64 or you chose to install for a previous CAD version then it may give you this error. Perhaps uninstall and try again. Let me know if the error comes up again. It would be unusual but i am sure we can figure it out together.

Do I still need to choose this option even if I have Autocad 2009 (Architecture).

I have a 64bit PC so I choose that option, I'll try it agian at work tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi Phil.

No if you are running 64 bit 2009 AutoCAD Architecture then you can choose the option to install for "2008-2009 64 bit" setup. If the PCloader.arx is still not loading afterward than it is most likely a service pack issue with your AutoCAD version. You can update to the latest service pack by going to http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps ... 8#section3.

The only problem with loading PC6 FreeEdition with AutoCAD 2009 is that it has zero features to utilize. The only advantage of the FreeEdition is to use some additional imports for converting data to PCG format in AutoCAD 2011. This is to temporarily fill the gap since Autodesk has only provided FLS/FWS/LAS imports to all 2011 releases besides Map/Civil. I would recommend downloading 2011 if you want to take advantage of the PointCloud FreeEdition.

Hope this helps,
Scott

Julie/Any Kubit Pointcloud users,

I'm trying to convert a .ptc to .pcg which according to the blurb on their website and what has been mentioned here is available in the free mode. However, its isn't allowing me to do so.

Any ideas?

Hi David,

kubit has not opened the PTC format in the FreeEdition. This is because many people are still on previous versions of kubit software that utilize only this file format and not the new PCG/ISD formats in 2011 AutoCAD. I am not sure when kubit will completely open this conversion option but will check it out.

PTC to PCG conversion is available in the full version of the software. If you need us to help you get on a trial then please just let us know. You will be able to perform the conversion this way.

FreeEdition is simply to help those on 2011 take advantage of the PCG format if they do not have the native FLS/FWS/LAS formats or access to Civil/Map 2011 which offer additional imports. kubit FreeEdition offers additional imports for ASCII/PTS, PTZ, and .RSP. kubit is also providing imports in their free PlanarView program if you would like to view PTZ, PTX or FLS files in a panoramic view. Just another option for you.

Hope this helps,
Scott

Hi Julie

I'm using the free version of PointCloud. When I try to import a PTS file using the ASCII import function it automatically converts it into a PTC file which the free version is then unable to import. Is it possible for me to import PTS files with the free version?

Many thanks.
