My company is about to aquire a Leica 6100. So far, we have been using only the Scanstation 1 and this will be our first phase based scanner.
I have done a bit of research on the 6100 and it seems to me that there is no integrated, on board camera like the Scanstations have. Is this an accurate assessment? We are going to use the 6100 for a presentation and some of the functions with the photo-mosaic do have an immediate "wow" factor for the client.
Aside from that, is there any other differences in the ordinary function and operation of the 6100 to the Scanstation 1 in regards to using it in the field. Are there any idiosyncrasies or improvements (aside from the obvious changes such as the built in control panel and battery, etc) that would be good too look out for?

Re: Leica 6100
Yes there is no integrated digital camera with the HDS6100. You can however use an external digital camera that fits on the the tribrach and has the lens positioned in the exact same location as the nodal point of the scanner. To do this you will need to buy a nodal ninja (http://www.nodalninja.com), a decent 10-12mp camera with a fish eye lens. Leica has a psf fact sheet with all this information on. Just search this forum for more information.johnmaske wrote:I have done a bit of research on the 6100 and it seems to me that there is no integrated, on board camera like the Scanstations have. Again search this forum for loads of top tips when using this scanner.johnmaske wrote:Aside from that, is there any other differences in the ordinary function and operation of the 6100 to the Scanstation 1 in regards to using it in the field.

Re: Leica 6100
Thank you so much for your quick response Phil. I have found some other great tips searching this forum regarding the 6100.
I actually have one more question. Is the camera situation on the 6100 the same on the 6000? We may actually end up getting a 6000 here I am told.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Leica 6100
There is no camera on either of these systems. I have used both and both are great phased based scanners. I think the main difference between them is the 6100 is wireless and may have reduced noise feature. If you do purchase a nodja ninja then you can use this with your scanstation to improve the images to give then extra wow factor.
