That looks really handy. Do you mind me asking how accurate is it generally ? Does it create linework that you could potentially send off to a client, or is it more meant to be a starting point for tidying up in CAD software and drawing up more accurately ?

Looks really good ! Sorry for the noob question :-)

First of all, the accuracy of the Vectorizer depends on the accuracy of your point cloud and therefore on the accuracy of the scanner and the registration. PointCab creates the layouts or section based on this point cloud. For instance, for the FARO Focus we talk about 2-3 mm (standard deviation) for a single point position plus the error of the registration. In summery, this can be typically 5 mm.

The accuracy of the Vectorizer furthermore will be influenced by the image resolution. In the upper case, we recommend to use an image resolution of 5 mm, to prevent the accuracy of the point cloud in the generated layouts/sections. From the theoretical point of view, a line can be fitted to the point cloud, e.g. the image resolution, more precisely. Usually, this is below the half of the resolution and therefore for this case below 2.5 mm.

Of course you can share the created line work with your client. As discussed above, the Vectorizer delivers a line work based on your point cloud. We recommend, to manually optimize the automatic extracted vectorization, especially for not extracted lines and line connections on the corners. Please note, that by manually interaction the lines are not connected to the point cloud anymore and the line accuracy therefore depends on you manual precision. Sometimes, your client needs axially parallel lines. You can create them in PointCab by hold down the shift key when drawing a line.

By the way, you can easily share the vectorization with your customer using the free service of AutoCAD 360:
