Scans become "colorized" after saving copies

Post by Dedken »

In my latest Scan project some of the scans were done in colour and but most were not (don't ask), but I decided for the sake of uniformity not to apply the pictures to the coloured scans. Once I was happy with registration I saved copies of the scans as FLS files to bring into Recap. When I indexed the files and launched the project the uncoloured scans had magically become coloured! I went back into Scene and opened one of the scans - it's definitely still a grey image.

Is this supposed to happen?

Wait ... the scans that had no pictures at all were coloured ? Or just the ones that had pictures but didn't have them applied ?

A work around for this (sounds like a ReCap bug) would be to export them (eg as e57 or something) as grey only. I guess ReCap assumes everyone would want pictures if they're available. Sounds like a good feature request to toggle colour on/off.

No, just the ones that had pictures. Otherwise that would be super-weird.

Yep, could be a Recap bug. I definitely did not apply colour in Scene though! It's not a major issue, more of an amusing side, nothing that'll interfere with my workflow.

How did you save it?
If you used the 'Save Copy of Scans" (see below) all of the .fls data, including color, was added to the export project file. BTW, this is an essential step for successfully exporting projects to ReCap, and not exactly intuitive.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hi Kenneth,

Dan is right - at the moment ReCap will always colorize the scan if possible. A 'toggle' has been requested and is on our development backlog.

You can always see the grayscale intensity in 3D mode by changing the display mode to 'Intensity' and changing the color scale in the lower-left to 'grayscale'. Currently RealView (panorama) mode, including on the web, only supports RGB.

I'm not a SCENE user - but maybe there's a way to explicitly discard the images in the saved copy?

Thanks,
Ryan

Betcha could delete the photos, save copy of scans, close the project without saving it (so the photos are still attached).
Kludgy, but...

I think it forces you to save before you 'Save Copy of Scans'.

Worse than expected.
  • new project
dragged in one SDHC .fls folder with photos
    saved
    deleted pictures folder
    saved
    started scene again
    there is no picture folder
saved copy of scans (now it is a file, not a folder)
reverted to saved immediately after dragged in SDHC's .fls
    exited and restarted scene
    new project
dragged in .fls file saved as copy of scans
it had the photos!
