Re: The surveyors nightmare!
I've found once before that brick facades got turned into thousands of checkerboard targets (if you check the 'detect checkerboards' option in Scene preprocessing). After that I decided to manually mark my checkerboards...

I have found Scene loves to pick bollards as spheres. I've also seen a car mirror, a knot in a tree, and my coworker's shoulder selected.

Re: The surveyors nightmare!
I often find much faster hand detecting the targets.
There are a lot of false positives with old buildings, trees and furniture, anc cleaning them is extremely time consuming.
Probably the prerequisite is the same person must do both the survey and the post processing.

Re: The surveyors nightmare!
Hello.
Very nice examples
Eugene: might it be you are somehow attracted by strange places to scan? Whenver I visited the Orlando Airport rest rooms, I never thought about scanning them.
Seriously:
In most cases, non-targets detected by SCENE should not be an issue.
As long as they only exist in one scan at the exact position (like on vegetation, people etc.) SCENE will not find corresponding targets in another scan. Thus they will not be used for placing the scans.
If the non-targets exist in more than one scan they should also not cause a problem as long as they did not move.
Best regards,
Oliver Bürkler

Re: The surveyors nightmare!
Oliver,
Since I've started scanning, I'll never look at a chess board the same. It's like a defect...I walk into a room and start thinking about where to place targets and how I am going to scan...
Tell me I am not alone please!

Yes, one is forever changed by the process of target/scanner placement.Since I've started scanning, I'll never look at a chess board the same. It's like a defect...I walk into a room and start thinking about where to place targets and how I am going to scan...

Not sure about targets, but I do see the world as intensity mapped now and not in colour anymore

Ha, for me it is a point cloud fly-through animation from a strange camera path. I can hardly look at things anymore without getting dizzy just thinking about the animation I am going to create
I find the physiological effects of photography and thermography to be just as disruptive. At times I imagine what the thermal color ramp is going to look like, which can be a little psychedelic
