portable ssd

Post by landmeterbeuckx »

Hi,
I was looking for a portable hard disk to make an image off my c-drive and noticed that there are also portable ssd drives.
Does anyone use these in combination with laser scanning software?
Greetings,

I have and it really just depends on the model you get. Best combination I have played with was the Samsung 850 Pro SSD inside a MediaSonic 2.5" USB3.0 enclosure.

On a side note, if you decide to go this route, I have tested out multiple Vantec enclosures, commonly found at MicroCenter and have had constant issues with them (2.5" enclosures mainly). Dont know why, maybe its a different chipset, but they have constantly had problems from my experiance.

We've been using the 850 Pros too. Rather than mess with enclosures we've just been using bare drives. Our desktop systems get hot-swap bays so the drive plugs straight in to a SATA 3 back plane. Laptops get an external dock that connect via USB 3 or eSATA. (e.g. http://www.icydock.com/goods_cat.php?id=105). The docks are a bit bulky to travel with but are fine for sitting on a desk.
